For clients

An appointment you won’t need to make twice.

Retained search for board, senior and business-critical roles across property, construction and the wider built environment.

Sträva Consulting recruits senior and specialist professionals across the built environment, for consultancies, contractors, developers and property businesses across the UK and internationally. Built on around 30 years in the sector, my approach is consultative and bespoke: led by retained executive search, with contingent recruitment where the role suits it. You deal with me from brief to appointment.

In a candidate-driven market, posting an advert and hoping for the best isn’t enough. The strongest candidates are rarely looking, so I go and find them. I think about the wider objectives and the impact on your team, make sure every candidate has a good experience whether or not they’re right for the role, and give you frank advice throughout. Recruiters don’t always have the best reputation. I’d like to help change that.

Services

Most of what I do is retained. It is the only reliable way to reach people who aren’t looking.

Primary service
Retained and executive search

For senior and business-critical appointments. A dedicated, exclusive search using direct approach to reach people who aren’t actively looking, supported by a structured process and tailored interview frameworks.

—Executive search (headhunting)
—Confidential and replacement searches
—Behavioural assessment for shortlisted candidates, from an accredited assessor
Where it fits
Contingent recruitment

For specialist and professional roles where the candidate pool is deep and speed matters more than reach. It draws on people already active in the market, and fees are payable only on a successful appointment.

How a retained search works

Five stages, one person accountable. A typical search takes 8 to 14 weeks from brief to accepted offer.

01
Brief
We agree the role, the person, the package and what success looks like in year one.
02
Map
I map the market: who holds comparable roles, where, and who is likely to move.
03
Approach
Discreet, personal approaches to the strongest people, including those not looking.
04
Assess
In-depth interviews and behavioural assessment, then a shortlist with a written report on each candidate.
05
Appoint
I manage the offer, the resignation and the notice period, and stay in touch after the start date.

What clients say

“Ben took a detailed brief, asked many questions, and designed an agreed interview template for his interviews and one for ours. We struggled to choose because all the candidates were strong. At the outset, Ben promised a controlled process, and he delivered just that.”
Client · Established Midlands property company
“If only everyone took providing a high level of service as seriously as Ben. His business matters enormously to him and this is reflected in the way he deals with his customers. If Ben can’t do it he’ll know a man who can so, whatever you need, you should call him first.”
Business owner
“Ben has always provided a professional service which has represented good value for money. I would recommend Ben to any of my clients.”
